Quickwrite 7
Oral story telling developed long ago because they had no way of producing books or stories in written form. The Native Americans adapted this more so than other cultures, and it became part of their heritage. Even now, hundreds of years later, they have powwows and have one of the storytellers come and tell old myths and legends. Storytellers are found less and less though now and are harder to find. The storytelling evolved into myths and legends because it was in a way their entertainment to make up stories and tell them. They passed them on from generation to generation so that the stories could be heard for a long time to come. The storytellers could change the story if they wanted to, especially if it is an unknown story. You never know if it’s the original version because people change them so much. Myths and legends will forever be alive, because now they can write them down and people have access to them.

America is described as the melting pot because of the vast diversity of cultures in races in America. America is the most diverse of all the nations and therefore there are more cultures here than in the other nations. My family is part of this “melting pot” because we are a part of the variety of races. I know that I am part Indian, not very much, but it is still a part of my culture and heritage. The Indians were here before the English and French and everyone started immigrating to America, so my ancestors were most likely living here before America was taken over. There are so many things that make up the diversity in America, the many races being just one of them. I think that the varieties of cultures that make up this “melting pot” are a big part of what the definition of America really is. I’m proud to be able to be a part of this nation and I am glad that here in America we are able to put our cultural differences aside and peacefully coexist with everyone. It’s nice to be able to have access to knowledge of other cultures too because I think that it’s really cool to learn about the other ways that people live their lives.

If I were to borrow one character trait from an older relative I would have to choose my grandpa’s wisdom. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met and I learn more from him every time I see him. He has impeccable knowledge of the Bible, because he’s a pastor and theologian. He can argue about all the ways the Bible is true and has proofs and support to back it up. Having this ability would enhance my life because I could bring more people to the Lord and I could show people how much Jesus loves them. It would also be nice to be wiser and smarter in decision making. I’ve never been the best at making important decisions and I’ve always wanted to be able to so I don’t mess anything up. My grandpa influenced my life a lot when I was a child because my parents never really went to church. The only time I would get to go to church was when I went to Bible school at my grandpa’s church. My life would be so much different if I hadn’t gone and I would have never been able to bring my mom closer to God. She now attends church with me regularly and I’m getting baptized next weekend. So if I had his wisdom and his influence then I believe it would make my life a whole lot easier.

People are threatened by people with different values and who believe differently than them because they feel that what they believe is the right thing, and everyone else is wrong. They think that all people should believe what they do and if they don’t then it makes them feel insecure and like they could be wrong. One clash of ideas that I can think of from the top of my head is the Church of England and the Catholic Church when King Henry the eighth broke ties with the Catholic Church because they would not give him the divorce that he wanted. I’ve had many arguments over religion in the past and I remember one very well because my friend just would not stop arguing with me about it. It was in Biology last year, and my friend, Nic Miner, and I were arguing about evolution. I don’t believe in evolution, I believe that God created the universe. Nic believes that it was just here and that evolution happened. He believes that people evolved from monkeys, which is the most ridiculous thing that I’ve ever heard in my opinion. I believe that this world is much too great and complex for it to have just happened and if people did evolve from monkeys why aren’t they now?
